Ten years and going strong—that’s nearly a lifetime in the SEM industry.

Location3 Media, Inc. first opened its doors in 1999 as an interactive agency providing direct response results to clients on a global scale. Over the years, we have continually evolved, adding services and solutions and refocusing the various elements of each. But in the past decade there has been one fixture that has never faded or faltered—our philosophy, Profit Through Performance™. We have always been focused on providing quantifiable success for our clients and we continue in that direct-response tradition to this day.

After working at DoubleClick for two years, helping to open international offices in Europe and training their sales teams on U.S. search marketing practices, Andrew Beckman founded Location3 Media in his native New York City using only personal funds, a natural entrepreneurial spirit and an insatiable desire to grow the interactive marketing industry. In 2000, Andrew launched his first paid search campaign on GoTo.com (the precursor to Overture, then Yahoo!). After a few years of working in New York, Andrew decided to relocate to a city with less overhead, less competition, more accessibility to clients on both coasts and, let’s not forget, the unmatched snowboarding opportunities!

In 2002, the company was growing and needed to take on more employees. The first person that came to mind was Samantha Bedford (née Pope), a client of Andrew’s at the time. Hoping to escape the escalating violence in Cape Town, South Africa, Samantha accepted Andrew’s offer; she worked remotely for a few months until her paperwork came through and she could legally move to and work in the United States. About this same time, Andrew was introduced to Alex Porter at a jazz fest in Downtown Denver. They hit it off immediately and began to talk shop. After hearing Andrew’s enthusiasm for search and vision for the future, Alex caught the search bug. He joined the company in 2003.

Andrew’s predictions came true—search began to grow exponentially. As the company started focusing more and more on PPC, it was imperative that they hire dedicated account managers. Erik Whaley, Jared Schroder and Justin Peereboom were the first few hires, followed shortly by other account managers.

From 2003 to 2008, Location3 ran under the moniker SearchAdNetwork due to the focus on search engine marketing. SearchAdNetwork began to make a name for itself as an award-winning service provider and educational leader.

In early 2007, the company recognized local search as the next big thing. Local Search Traffic (www.LocalSearchTraffic.com) was founded to focus on local map listings and geo-targeted PPC management. Throughout 2007 and 2008, several other services were added, including post-click optimization, Hispanic search marketing and mobile marketing. To account for this broadening of services beyond search, the company decided to drop SearchAdNetwork and return to Location3 Media.

As the lines between services shifted and blurred, the need for an extensive web design and development offering became apparent. Interactive Creative Director Ryan Geiger was hired in early 2009 to provide these creative and technical services.

Location3 has seen exponential growth in the past decade, especially in the last couple years. Once a one-person, one-service outfit, we now employ 30 individuals and offer more than 20 services. As the lines continue to haze, we strive for ways to blend offerings into comprehensive interactive marketing campaigns. But no matter the number of employees and the types of services, our credo will always remain the same—Profit Through Performance™.
